NRVIA Standards of Practice
Purpose, Scope, and General Statements
1 – The purpose of the Standards of Practice is to establish a uniform standard for the company's RV Inspector to inspect and report objectively the conditions of a Recreational Vehicle and its components.
2 – The Standards describe the components, and systems included in an RV Inspection.
3 – The Standards apply to motorized and towable types of RVs as defined by the RV Industry.
4 – The Standards apply to a visual inspection of those areas, components, and systems that are readily accessible to determine at the time of inspection that they are performing their intended function without regard to life expectancy.
5 – The RV inspection aims to identify visible and operational defects as permitted by the current conditions that, in the judgment of the RV Inspector, will adversely affect the function or integrity of the Recreational Vehicle's items, components, and systems.
6 – RV Inspections performed under the Standards of Practice are visual and rely upon the RV inspector's opinion, judgment, education, and experience. They are not intended to be technically exhaustive.
7 – RV Inspections shall be performed in a time period sufficient to allow compliance with the provisions of the NRVIA Standards of Practice.
8 – RV Inspections performed under the Standards shall not be construed as being a compliance inspection of any code, governmental regulation, or manufacturer’s installation instructions or procedures. If a law, statute, or ordinance prohibits a procedure recommended in the Standards, the RV Inspector is relieved of the obligation to adhere to the prohibited part of the Standards.
9 – RV Inspections performed under the Standards are not an expressed, implied warranty or guarantee of adequacy, performance, or useful life of any RV, any of its components or systems.
10 – Only those items specifically listed on the RV Inspection Report will be included in the RV Inspectors evaluation.
11 – The RV Inspector shall report any system or component included in the Standards of Practice that were present during the RV Inspection but were NOT inspected and provide the reason they were not inspected.
General Limitations and Exclusions
1 – RV Inspections performed under the company's Standards of Practice exclude any items concealed or not readily accessible to the RV Inspector. The RV Inspector is not required to move furniture or personal or stored items. Lifting floor covering, and accessing interior walls and ceilings which could damage or destroy the components or systems being evaluated is not part of the RV Inspection.
2 – The determination of the presence of damage caused by insects or water is only to be evaluated by observation with an opinion being rendered by the RV Inspector that is to make the client aware of the issue.
3 – Excluded from the Standards of Practice is the determination of indoor air quality of the RV and its consequence of physical damage, toxicity, odors, waste products, and noxiousness.
4 – The RV Inspection and report are opinions only that are based upon the visual observation of the existing conditions of the RV at the time of the RV Inspection. The report is not intended to be construed as a guarantee, warranty, or any form of insurance. The RV Inspector will not be responsible for any service, repairs, or replacement concerning the RV or its contents.
5 – The RV Inspector is not required to enter any premises that visibly show a threat to the safety of the RV Inspector or others nor inspect any area or component that poses a danger to the RV Inspector or others.
6 – The NRVIA Certified RV Inspector will inspect and report on the RV items listed in this report and their condition during the RV Inspection. Any additional items of inspection will be dependent upon any agreements that are made between the client and the RV Inspector.

Chapters and Sections
This report is divided into chapters that parcel the RV coach into logical inspection components. Each chapter is broken into sections that relate to a specific system or component of the RV coach. You can navigate between chapters with the click of a button on the left-side margin.
Most sections will contain some descriptive information in black font. Observation narrative, done in colored boxes, will be included if a system or component is found to be significantly deficient in some way or if we wish to provide helpful additional information about the system or the scope of our inspection. If a system or component of the RV was deemed to be in satisfactory or serviceable condition, there may be no narrative observation comments in that section and it may simply say “tested,” or “inspected.”

Minor Issues
- VI-1 Vehicle Information - State License Plate:
No license plate hardware was present to mount either the front or rear license plate.
- VI-2 Vehicle Information - Build Sheet:
The Operator's manual appears to be for the Transit-based Ekko, not the Mercedes Ekko, as the Mercedes Ekko has an induction cooktop instead of an LP cooktop.
- ES-1 Exterior Sidewalls - Front Cap / Wall:
The inspector observed a blemish on the coach's front bumper.
- ES-2 Exterior Sidewalls - Curbside - Sidewall:
The inspector observed that many of the curbside cargo bay door locks are difficult to lock, with concern that the key is going to fatigue and break.
- Curbside Front Upper Lock
- Curbside Front Lower Lock
- ES-5 Exterior Sidewalls - Streetside Sidewall:
The inspector observed that many streetside cargo bay doors are challenging to lock, with concern that the key will fatigue and break.
- Upper battery door
- Front Gulper
- Rear Gulper Lock
- Streetside Rear Bay, Front Lock
- ES-6 Exterior Sidewalls - Streetside Sidewall:
The inspector observed that no limiting cable is installed on the streetside rearmost compartment pass-through door; however, there is one on the curbside door. This is per Winnebago's design: the curbside cable is so the garage door blocks the water heater exhaust. It is recommended that a limiting cable (PN 076767-05-000) be installed on the streetside of the rearmost compartment pass-through door to prevent it from opening and hitting the water bay door.
- ED-1 Entrance Doors - Door - Coach:
The inspector observed that the screen door slide panel latch is not operational.
- ED-2 Entrance Doors - Door - Coach:
The inspector observed damage to the entrance door strike plate. A photo not available as this issue was identified and repaired in the shop (no photo policy).
- ED-3 Entrance Doors - Door - Coach:
The inspector observed that the magnetic latch is loose and does not hold to the screen door frame.
- LSDE-1 LP System, Detector(s), Extinguisher(s) - DOT Tanks:
The inspector observed that the tanks had a wrap which states caution remove the sleeve before placing any propane in this cylinder.
- AC-1 Air Conditioners - Air Conditioners - Center:
The inspector observed that the filter does not stay in the holder.
- AC-2 Air Conditioners - Air Conditioners - Center:
The inspector observed that where the wires come into the AC unit allows air to bypass which will reduce efficiency.
- I-2 Interior - Ceiling:
The inspector observed line of discoloration between the AC vent and the smoke detector.
- I-3 Interior - Walls:
The inspector observed unfinished wall trim on the curbside going to the bedroom.
- I-4 Interior - Windows, Blinds and Shades:
The inspector observed adhesive where the options sheet was mounted.
- I-5 Interior - Kitchen Sink:
The inspector observed a gap in the counter-to-wall sealant behind the kitchen sink mid-window.
Notice / Comment
- A-1 Awnings - Main Awning:
To extend the awning, the parking brake needs to be engaged. The inspector suggests setting the parking brake while the engine is running.
- MRT-1 MH-Engine, Radiator and Transmission - Engine Oil:
No engine oil sample was taken during the inspection. The inspector recommends reviewing the manufacturer's service intervals to identify when engine oil and filter changes are required.
- MRT-2 MH-Engine, Radiator and Transmission - Coolant:
No coolant sample was taken at the time of the inspection. The inspector recommends reviewing the manufacturer's coolant service intervals to determine when a coolant changes are required.
- MRT-3 MH-Engine, Radiator and Transmission - Transmission:
No transmission sample was taken during the inspection. The inspector recommends reviewing the manufacturer's service intervals to determine when a transmission fluid change is required.
- 1VA1VDES-1 120 Volt AC and 12 Volt DC Electrical System - Surge Protector:
A 30 AMP surge protector was not present in the coach. Unknown AC power connections can cause significant damage to an RV electrical system. It is recommended that a 30 AMP surge protector be purchased before using the coach.
Progressive Industries RV Surge Protector 30 Amp, Portable with Cover, SSP-30XL
- 1VA1VDES-2 120 Volt AC and 12 Volt DC Electrical System - 12 Volt DC Chassis Battery:
The chassis battery was not accessible, as disassembling the floor of the driver's footwell is required.
- LSDE-2 LP System, Detector(s), Extinguisher(s) - DOT Tanks:
The LP tanks' metal bases sit on a painted metal pan. The pan's paint will chip and eventually rust, so we recommend tank protection.
Mopeka AP Products 024-5002 Tank Halo
- KA-1 Kitchen Appliances - Cooktop / Oven:
Induction cooktops requires pots and pans that are made of ferrous (meaning magnetic) materials. Check your cookware's retail box for the induction symbol. To tell if your current cookware is compatible with the induction technology, grab a magnet and see if it holds.
- OA-1 Other Appliances - Water Heater:
The Truma AquaGo installed in this coach owner's manual states, "Winterizing the RV with a winterizing fluid is only possible with an installed bypass kit..." The Truma requires that this device be bypassed when winterizing or sanitizing the system.
- I-1 Interior - Interior Photos:

LP System, Detector(s), Extinguisher(s)
NOTES
General RV Detector and Fire Extinguisher statements:
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1192 Standard requires that any detectors installed in an RV be certified for use in RVs.
The detector's manufactured date will typically be listed on the back of the detector. It's essential to check and replace detectors as the manufacturer recommends. Following the manufacturer's routine checks (which can be weekly) on all detectors is a reliable way to ensure their proper function. The detector manufacturer may list acceptable replacement battery manufacturers.
-LP Detectors have an estimated service life of 5 years, after which they are strongly recommended to be replaced. UL 1484
-CO Detectors have an estimated service life of 5 years, after which they are strongly recommended to be replaced. UL 2034 or CSA 6.19
-Smoke Detectors have an estimated service life of 5 to 10 years, after which they are recommended to be replaced. UL 217
-Fire Extinguishers are required to be removed from service 12 years from the date of manufacture. NFPA 10
These are not just a suggestion but a crucial step to ensure your RV's safety.
